Advanced Diploma in Midwifery

Programme Details

The purpose of this programme is to:

Produce competent, independent, and critically thinking midwives within a wide range of midwifery services. Provide midwives with a wide range of skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable them to make a meaningful and sustained contribution to midwifery services.

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes

Duration per Programme

: One academic year

The purpose of these postgraduate programmes is to:

Strengthen and deepen the students knowledge and practice in specialised clinical nursing care. It will enable the nurse specialist to engage in their respective specialist areas of practice with in-depth knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to enhance professional independence and improve health outcomes in addressing the quadruple burden of diesease.

Minimum admission requirements to postgraduate programmes:

A National Senior Certificate or an equivalent certificate and any of the following
Diploma in Nursing with advanced Diploma in Midwifery (NQF Level 7)
Bachelors Degree in Nursing (NQF Level 7/8)

Additional Requirements for Postgraduate Programmes:

Proof of current registration with SANC.
At least two (2) years experience after registration as a

Professional Nurse or
General Nurse and Midwife.

The two years include the year of community service.
One-year experience in the specialised clinical nursing unit related to the specific programme/programme of interest.

Postgraduate Diploma in Child Nursing
